Routers for practicing routing protocols, NAT and VPNs, or for running your home network. The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and EdgeRouter 4 run EdgeOS with OSPF, RIP and BGP included and no license to buy, and both are fanless. MikroTik's hEX, hAP ac², RB4011 and CCR1009 run RouterOS with a license that stays with the device, and the hAP ac² adds Wi-Fi. The Cisco ISR 2921 is the classic CCNA router, with module slots and licensed feature packages, but Cisco ended its support in December 2022, and at 54.4 dBA typical it's loud for a room you sit in. Reset any used router before it goes on your network, since the last owner's passwords and VPN keys live in the config.
