The hAP ac² arrived in 2018, and Wikipedia's MikroTik timeline calls it the company's first fully assembled quad-core ARM home router. It's a dual-band 802.11ac router rated AC1200, with five gigabit ports and a USB port for storage or an LTE modem, built on an IPQ-4018 chip with 128 MB of RAM. The case stands upright as a tower or lies flat, and a wall-mount kit comes in the box. Don't mix it up with the older hAP ac, the triple-chain RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT with an SFP port. The ac² is the RBD52G-5HacD2HnD-TC. In RouterOS v7 it can swap its stock wireless package for the newer wifi-qcom-ac driver, though MikroTik warns that uses more RAM. MTCNA students like it because one fanless box covers routing, firewall rules and Wi-Fi. A US version is locked to US channels, and that lock can't be removed.

License, support, noise and ports
License and feature set
It ships with a RouterOS Level 4 license, which allows 200 tunnels and 200 hotspot users and includes wireless AP mode. The license is bound to the router's storage and can't be moved to another device, so it stays with the box on resale. Netinstall doesn't erase it.
Software and support
It runs RouterOS, and MikroTik still builds current v7 releases for ARM. In v7 you can swap the stock wireless package for the newer wifi-qcom-ac driver, which MikroTik lists as compatible with the hAP ac² but warns uses noticeably more RAM. Updates are free for the life of the product or at least five years from purchase.
Fans and power
Passive cooling, no fan. The product page gives 21 W maximum with attachments and 16 W without.
Ports and optics
Five gigabit ports through a switch chip and a USB port for storage or an LTE modem. There's no SFP cage. Port 1 accepts passive PoE in at 18 to 28 V, and there's no PoE out.
Reset and console
Hold reset while you apply power and let go when the green LED flashes to reset the config and password. Keep holding 5 more seconds until the LED goes solid for CAP mode, or until it goes out for Netinstall on port 1. There's no serial console port.
Should come with it
24 V 0.8 A power adapter (supplied)
Case base for tower or desktop use (supplied)
K-47 wall-mount kit (supplied)
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
RouterOS 6.42 releases fixed RAM detection and improved wireless stability and throughput on the hAP ac², so a unit stuck on old firmware can look worse than it is. Otherwise most trouble is the previous owner's config and a missing adapter.
01Model code: Check the sticker says RBD52G-5HacD2HnD-TC in the photos. RB962UiGS is the older hAP ac, and the hAP ac³ is a different router.
02Region: Ask whether it's the US or the international version. A US unit stays locked to US channels, which is fine inside the US.
03Power adapter: Look for the 24 V adapter in the photos. A 12 to 30 V supply with a 5.5 mm, center-positive plug also works.
04Stand and mount: Look for the case base and wall-mount kit in the photos. They come in the box new.
05License: Ask the seller for the output of /system license print. It should show level 4.
06Both radios: Ask for a screenshot of the wireless interfaces list. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios should show up.
07RouterOS version: Ask for the version shown in /system resource. Any v7 release is fine, and you can move to the wifi-qcom-ac driver later.
08PoE in: If you'll power it over PoE, use a passive injector at 18 to 28 V on port 1. It has no PoE out, so it won't power another device.
09Reset: On arrival, hold reset while you plug in power and let go when the green LED flashes. Join the Wi-Fi network starting with MikroTik and open 192.168.88.1.
We'd buy steve_stoller's hAP ac² at $53 delivered, titled works and pictured with its adapter, or csel4317's at $54, titled as the -US version with the adapter and stand plate. There are at least 29 for sale, and used US ones ask $50–70 delivered while new US stock asks $78–95, so the $65–130 band is mostly new units and imports. Many titles don't name the version, and inside the US it matters little, since the -US model is locked to US channels for good and the international RBD52G-5HacD2HnD-TC simply has the wider range. The Level 4 license stays with the box and a reset while powering up clears the old password, so check the sticker for the RBD52G code (not the older RB962 hAP ac or the hAP ac³) and look for the 24 V adapter. Skip it-planet-com's at $302 delivered, a business listing from Germany with $167 shipping.
