- License and feature set
- The -S means IP Base. Cisco offers LAN Base, IP Base and IP Services on the 3750-X, and an upgrade from IP Base to IP Services is a permanent license through Cisco IOS Software Activation (part L-C3750X-48-S-E). Cisco's transfer policy says software rights only move to a new owner with Cisco's consent and a transfer fee equal to a new license, so what's installed is what you can count on.
- Software and support
- It runs Cisco IOS from 12.2(53)SE2, and Cisco's release notes go up to 15.2(4)E. Cisco stopped selling it on October 30, 2016, the last maintenance release date was October 30, 2017, security fixes ended on October 30, 2019, and support ended on October 31, 2021.
- Fans and power
- Cisco rates it at 43 dB typical and 46 dB maximum sound pressure with 16 PoE+ ports loaded at 25°C. The fans are field-replaceable C3KX-FAN-23CFM modules. It draws about 134 W weighted with the four-port gigabit module, before any PoE load.
- PoE
- The 715 W supply it ships with gives 435 W of PoE. A single 1100 W supply gives 800 W, two 715 W supplies give 870 W, a 715 W plus an 1100 W give 1235 W, and two 1100 W supplies give 1600 W.
- Ports and optics
- The uplink module isn't part of the default switch, so check what's fitted. The C3KX-NM-1G gives four gigabit ports, the NM-10G gives two 10G SFP+ ports that also take 1G SFPs, and the NM-10GT gives two 10GBASE-T ports. Optics usually aren't included.
- Reset and console
- Cisco's recovery for the 3750 family is to hold the Mode button while you plug in power, then run flash_init and rename flash:config.text. It has an RJ-45 console port and a USB console port, plus a separate RJ-45 management port.
