HP's install guide for the 2920 is dated February 2013, and it shows a switch built to grow. The 24G-PoE+ (J9727A) has 20 PoE+ gigabit ports and four dual-personality ports that take either RJ-45 or SFP. On the back are two expansion slots for 2-port 10GbE SFP+ or 10GBASE-T modules, and a slot for a stacking module that joins up to four switches into one. Power comes from a single X332 575 W supply. That's what appeals to a home lab, since you can stack two of them or add a 10G module for a server uplink. A bare unit has no 10G ports, though, so the modules matter as much as the switch. HP rates it at 37.1 dB at the virtual workspace. After HP bought Aruba in 2015 the 2920 carried on under the Aruba name, and HPE's parts site lists its support as ended on December 31, 2023.

The power supply is a removable module, so on any listing that doesn't name it, ask whether the X332 575 W supply (J9738A) is fitted, and look at the back for the stacking and expansion slots, since blank covers mean no 10G until you add a J9731A module.
