The SRX300 is the smallest model in Juniper's SRX300 line of branch firewalls, which Juniper's licensing groups with the SRX320, SRX340, SRX345 and SRX380. It's a fanless desktop box with six gigabit ports, two SFP ports, 4 GB of memory and 8 GB of flash. Juniper rates it for up to 1 Gbps of firewall traffic and 300 Mbps of IPsec VPN, and it supports IDP, MACsec on the SFP ports and high availability. For a home lab, the appeal is that it's silent and averages about 25 W. It also runs the same current Junos as Juniper's bigger SRX firewalls, so JNCIA and security students can practice policies, NAT and IPsec on it. Juniper hasn't announced end of life for the hardware. Security subscriptions are tied to the serial number, so buy it for what the Standard tier does.

License, support, noise and ports
License and feature set
The Standard tier comes with the hardware and covers routing, firewall, switching, NAT, VPN and MPLS. Advanced 1 adds SecIntel, IDP and application security, and Juniper also offers Advanced 2 and Premium 1 for the SRX300, adding URL filtering, cloud antivirus and ATP Cloud. These are tied to the chassis serial number, so plan on the Standard features only.
Software and support
It runs Junos OS. Juniper's SRX dates page has no end-of-life notice for SRX300 hardware as of October 2026, only for some of its software bundles, so it's still a current, supported model.
Fans and power
It's fanless, and Juniper lists its noise level as 0 dB. Average draw is 24.9 W from an external 60 W adapter (12 V, 5 A). It cools by natural convection, so leave clear space around it.
Ports and optics
There are six RJ-45 gigabit ports and two 1G SFP ports that support MACsec. There's no SFP+ and no PoE on this model. Optics aren't in the box, so check the photos for SFP modules.
Reset and console
Press RESET CONFIG briefly to load the rescue config, or hold it 15 seconds until the status LED is amber to delete everything and load the factory config. It doesn't reboot by itself afterward, so power-cycle it for switching changes to apply. A lost root password is reset from the console in single-user mode. Consoles are RJ-45 and mini-USB, and the mini-USB port needs Juniper's USB driver.
Should come with it
External 60 W power adapter and cord (supplied)
USB Type-A to mini-B console cable (supplied on older units)
Rack-mount kit with adapter tray (optional)
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
Holding the front RESET CONFIG button wipes every config, so ask whether the seller changed it with set chassis config-button. Most other trouble is the previous owner's config and a missing power adapter.
01Model: Check the label in the photos. It should read SRX300, not SRX320 or SRX340.
02Software: Ask for the output of show version. Any current Junos release is fine, since the hardware is still supported.
03Licenses: Ask for the output of show system license. Standard features are what to expect, and an active subscription is a bonus.
04Power adapter: Look for the external 12 V adapter in the photos. Juniper's own 60 W adapter is the one to have.
05Case and vents: Check the case and vents in the photos for dents and blockages. It has no fan, so the vents need to be clear.
06SFP and optics: Count the SFP modules in the photos. Expect none, and use 1G SFP optics, since the ports aren't SFP+.
07Rack kit: Look for the rack-mount kit and adapter tray if you want it in a rack. Juniper sold the kit separately, so expect it to be missing.
08Console: Plan on an RJ-45 rollover or mini-USB cable for the console. The mini-USB port works once Juniper's USB driver is on your laptop.
09Reset: On arrival, hold RESET CONFIG for 15 seconds until the status LED turns amber. After a power cycle it should come up on the factory config.
We'd buy dawson-electronics' SRX300 titled tested at $187 with free shipping from China, under the $229 median, after asking whether the 12 V adapter comes with it. There are at least 73 for sale, and most used units ask $150–390 delivered. Bare units titled without the adapter start at $72 delivered, while corelinksystems' UK unit with the SRX300-RMK0 rack kit and PSU asks $195, so price Juniper's 60 W, 12 V adapter into any listing that doesn't show one. It's fanless and still supported, but security subscriptions are tied to the chassis serial, so plan on the Standard features whatever bundle code the title carries. Skip vaa666's SRX300-JSE at $2,627 delivered, more than 11 times the median.
