Juniper launched the SRX family of gateways in 2008, and its Mini-PIM tables list the SRX210 branch firewall from Junos 9.4 in early 2009. The SRX210H-P-MGW is the rare voice version. On top of the PoE model's two gigabit and six Fast Ethernet ports, it carries two FXS and two FXO analog phone ports on a voice mezzanine board. The H means high memory, which Juniper's guide puts at 1 GB of RAM and 1 GB of flash on the H models. Juniper's volatility letter for it dates from February 2010, and Juniper ended sales of the bundle in January 2011. For a JNCIA or security lab it does the same firewall, NAT and IPsec work as any SRX210, from the same Junos CLI. The thing to watch is power. PoE+ needs the 54 V adapter, and Juniper no longer sells either of its 150 W adapters.
Lab check
Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
It boots Junos from NAND flash soldered to the board, so storage isn't a swappable part. Most trouble is the previous owner's config and a missing power adapter, which Juniper no longer sells.
Buying your first used switch or router? How to check used network gear covers the console, a factory reset, power supplies and optics, and our noise and power guide covers what fans and power draw mean at home.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for a photo of the label on the back and of the boot or version output, whether it’s been reset to factory settings, and which power supplies, rack ears and optics come with it. Pass on any seller who won’t answer.
