Juniper's first enterprise switch, the EX4200, arrived in 2008, and the EX2200 followed as the entry-level access model. Juniper lists Junos 10.1R1, released in February 2010, as its first software. The 24T-4G is the plain version, with 24 gigabit copper ports, four 1G SFP uplinks and no PoE. A fanless 12-port EX2200-C joined it later on Junos 11.3. It runs the same Junos as Juniper's routers and SRX firewalls, so JNCIA students buy it to practice the commit and rollback workflow on real hardware. Junos 12.2 added Virtual Chassis, which stacks up to four over the SFP uplinks. Routing is where it comes up short. OSPF needs the EX-24-EFL license and stops at four active interfaces, and BGP isn't offered. Juniper ended support in June 2024, so it's a lab switch now, with no security fixes coming.
Lab check
Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
Juniper's guide says a failed fan raises a chassis alarm and the remaining fan speeds up, so ask for show chassis alarms. Most other trouble is the previous owner's config and missing parts, not the hardware.
Buying your first used switch or router? How to check used network gear covers the console, a factory reset, power supplies and optics, and our noise and power guide covers what fans and power draw mean at home.
Buying guide
We'd buy aly-3236's EX2200-24T-4G, titled tested, at $38 with free shipping, and the photo shows rack ears fitted. There are at least 44 for sale, and US sellers mostly ask $38 to $100 delivered, while the $65 to $270 band is pulled up by European resellers charging $150 to $218 just to ship. It has no PoE, whatever eastwestx's title says, and OSPF and VRRP need the EX-24-EFL license tied to the serial, so ask for show system license and show version, with Junos 12.2 or later if you want Virtual Chassis. Juniper ended support in June 2024, so it's a JNCIA lab switch now, and request system zeroize from the RJ-45 console wipes the last owner's config. Skip minutio's EX2200-24T-4G-DC at $752 delivered, which needs a -48 V DC supply rather than mains power.

Titled EX2200-24T with Junos 12.3R12-S21, new enough for Virtual Chassis. Check the label for 24T-4G.
