The Catalyst 2960 was Cisco's entry-level managed access switch, and Cisco's support page dates the series to September 2005. The 24TT-L is the plain one. It has 24 ports of 10/100 for desks and phones, two gigabit copper uplinks and a fan, all in a 1U box that Cisco rates at 30 W. The -L means LAN Base software, so it's a layer 2 switch with no routing license to chase. That's why it still turns up on CCNA desks. You get VLANs, trunks and a real Cisco console for very little, and nothing on it needs activating. Cisco stopped selling it in October 2014, named the 2960-Plus 24TC-L as its replacement and ended support in October 2019. The newer 15.2 software skips this original model. Read the part number closely, since Cisco's guide lists the 24TT-L next to the 24TC-L and the 2960-Plus, and sellers mix them up.
Lab check
Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
Most trouble is the previous owner's config and a forgotten password, not the hardware. The Mode button recovery fixes both if you have a console cable.
Buying your first used switch or router? How to check used network gear covers the console, a factory reset, power supplies and optics, and our noise and power guide covers what fans and power draw mean at home.
Buying guide
We'd buy fic6187's 2960-24TT-L, titled as powering on, at $52 delivered, or ecr2.electronics' one with rack ears at $42 if you're happy to test it yourself. There are at least 96 for sale, and most used ones ask $50 to $100 delivered, because shipping a 1U switch adds $12 to $49 to US asks that mostly sit at $25 to $60. Read the label for WS-C2960-24TT-L, since sellers mix it up with the 24TC-L and the 2960-Plus, and get an RJ-45 rollover console cable so you can wipe the last owner's config with the Mode button. Cisco ended support in October 2019 and left this original 2960 out of its 15.2 software, so treat euroitsolutionltd's IOS 15 claim as the seller's word and ask for a show version photo. Skip vaa666's 3-year-warranty listing from Austria at $580 delivered, more than five times the top of the band.

Titled with IOS 15 for a CCNA lab, from the UK. Cisco's 15.2 notes leave this model out, so ask for show version.
