EdgeSwitch was the switch side of Ubiquiti's EdgeMAX line, run from its own web UI and command line with no controller. The ES-24-Lite came out in 2015 as the 24-port model without PoE. It's a 1U switch with 24 gigabit ports, two 1G SFP ports, an internal 25 W supply and a DC input that can act as a hot spare. You get VLANs, private VLANs, MSTP, link aggregation, 802.1X, ACLs and DHCP snooping, all through an industry-standard CLI over the RJ45 console, SSH or Telnet. That CLI makes it a better fit for CCNA practice than a UniFi switch with the same ports. Routing is static only, with 16 routes on 15 interfaces, so there's no OSPF or RIP. The ES-24-250W and ES-24-500W are its PoE siblings. Ubiquiti still publishes EdgeSwitch firmware, with 1.12.2 out in June 2026.

License, support, noise and ports
License and feature set
There's no license. Every feature in the EdgeSwitch firmware is there out of the box, and nothing is tied to the previous owner except their config and password, which a reset clears.
Software and support
It runs EdgeSwitch firmware, with a web UI and an industry-standard CLI. Ubiquiti still publishes it, with 1.12.2 out in June 2026 carrying security fixes. Since 1.8.2 each release also comes in a lite build that caps VLANs at 255, so check which build you load.
Fans and power
Ubiquiti's datasheet gives no fan count or noise figure for it. Maximum AC draw is 25 W from the internal supply.
Ports and optics
24 gigabit RJ45 ports and two hot-swappable 1G SFP ports, with no SFP+. SFP modules aren't in the box. The 16 to 25 V DC input takes a separate supply as a hot spare, and Ubiquiti says the switch moves to it without interrupting operation if the internal supply fails.
Reset and console
With it fully booted, hold reset for about 15 seconds until the system LED flashes blue for two seconds. It comes back on DHCP, falls back to 192.168.1.2 if there's no server, and takes ubnt/ubnt. The RJ45 console needs a rollover cable at 115200 8N1.
Should come with it
AC power cord (supplied)
Rack-mount brackets, screws and cage nuts (supplied)
SFP modules (not supplied)
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
Ubiquiti's release notes warn that the lite firmware build drops VLANs above 255, and a config with more loses them on upgrade. EdgeSwitch 1.12.2 also doesn't work with the password generator in UISP versions older than 2.4.126.
01Model: Check the label in the photos says ES-24-Lite. ES-24-250W and ES-24-500W are the PoE models.
02Firmware: Ask which EdgeSwitch firmware version it runs. Ubiquiti's current line is 1.12, and older units upgrade for free.
03VLANs: If you load a lite build, keep your VLAN count at 255 or fewer. The standard build allows up to 4093.
04Routing: Plan your lab around static routes only. The datasheet allows 16 routes across 15 routing interfaces.
05SFP modules: Check the photos for SFP modules if you need fiber. The two SFP ports take 1G modules.
06Rack brackets: Look for the rack brackets in the photos. Ubiquiti ships them with screws and cage nuts.
07Console: Use an RJ45-to-DB9 rollover cable on the console port at 115200, 8N1. You should get the EdgeSwitch CLI prompt.
08Reset: On arrival, hold reset about 15 seconds once it's booted. The system LED flashing blue for two seconds means it's back to defaults.
09Login: Browse to 192.168.1.2 if DHCP doesn't give it an address, and log in with ubnt and ubnt. You should land in the EdgeSwitch web UI.
We'd buy rebelbout's ES-24-Lite titled tested at $90 with free shipping, under the $106 median. There are at least 43 for sale and most ask $85–200 delivered, with plain untested units from $75. It has no PoE, so titles calling it PoE or PoE+ are wrong, and if you need PoE the ES-24-250W and ES-24-500W are the models to look for. Nothing ties it to the last owner beyond the config, which a 15-second reset clears, and you'll want an RJ45 rollover cable for the console at 115200 8N1 if you plan to use the CLI. Skip bluetooth17's ask at $528 delivered, about 5 times the median for the same switch.
